IC or Imum Coeli

Imum Coeli and Midheaven (IC and MC) form the north-south axis of a chart. Where the Midheaven (MC) corresponds to noon and points south, the Imum Coeli (IC) coincides with midnight and points north. The MC speaks of aspirations, of a creative energy, of qualities that we need to develop in order to express our vocation. The house in which the MC falls describes which context – which life areas - will help us manifest our life goals.

The IC represents the deepest and most intimate in ourselves, it is our inner roots, that which gives us a sense of inner security. It underlies the incarnation in this world. The sign on the IC describes qualities innate to the soul, sensed by the personality as natural and from which it can draw in order to act. If we compare the personality to a tree, the IC would represent its roots, the MC the branches that stretch towards the sky.

Aquarius, the Waterbearer

Slightly tilted, the earth orbits the sun (the ecliptic) and spins like a top along the north-south poles of the ecliptic. These movements are caused (among other) by the combined action of attraction of sun and moon on the axis of the earth which is thereby subjected to various disturbances in its orbital trajectory. Among other things, this causes the retrograde movement of the vernal point along the ecliptic, a phenomenon we call the precession of the equinoxes. This movement lasts more or less 25,920 years, as seen against the background of the twelve constellations (which are of interest to astrology). In our time the vernal point moves from Pisces to Aquarius (Aquarius); from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius.

The IC speaks of qualities inherent to our Being and sense of belonging. Aquarius, symbolizing brotherhood and group spirit, is the symbol of the coming era during which we will express and shape, more or less certainly, the qualities of Aquarius so that in the long term, they will become an inspiration, a natural source of life, and so will become rooted in the earth, in life...

VHence the name of this site: IC Aquarius (I See Aquarius in English).

The IC in a birth chart leads you to the center of the Earth... Once you have contacted the center, you can radiate in all directions; you are not alike a tree which is rooted at one locality and cannot move - Alexander Ruperti
